Nobleman Autumn/Winter 2004
Los Angeles, 2004
Design and photography for Myles Grimsdale’s menswear collection. Co-art directed by Myles and myself.
Nobleman was a street wear label started by Londoner Myles Grimsdale. A graduate of Central St.Martin’s School of Art in Fashion Design he worked for various apparel companies in New York and Los Angeles before starting his own line. Myles, as I recall, wanted to introduce more refined materials and tailoring to streetwear which in 2004 was dominated by sporty, all-over printed garments.
At the time I was very inspired by Francesco Rosi’s “Salvatore Giuliano” which depicted a sun drenched Sicily in stark black and white cinematography by Gianni Di Venanzo and I wanted to bring that sensuality to the project. We knew we wanted a 2 color catalog that we hoped would feel both nostalgic, without leaning to old timey, so shooting the looks in medium format black and white appealed to both our budget and creative ambitions.
