914 × 1219 mm poster for Volkswagon’s internet radio startup. Full spread ads in Fader, Rolling Stone, Wire — simple, bold and the color scheme says Volkswagen.

WG News , 2009
Various illustrations for the WG News & Arts. The hearts were rendered with mixed media for a Valentines Day story and the line up of washers was for an essay reviewing local laundromats which compared one Greenpoint washer to an Olafur Eliasson MoMA exhibition.

Cody Hudson asked for drawings of delivery trucks facing right for also known as’ premier issue. I am not sure if it a magazine or a book. Either way I screwed up the brief by not drawing delivery trucks and not making them face right so thank photoshop. I like the truck Cody put mine next to.

Some Sneakers, 2001
Wade Thompson and I showed some drawing of shoes for no other reason that do some drawings. I have to admit these look better reproduced than actually mounted.

Hill and Gully Rider, 2002
Initially these collages were presented to Arkitip as examples of how one could illustrate with a couple different bitmap patterns. They soon found their way into a Sci-Arc graduate project thanks to I. Kandarian. The bikes were rendered in plaids and floral print shelf lining that provided a nice contrast to the subject matter. The technique is perfect for contemporary retail installations.

Sneakers and Drug Wars, 2001
Illustration for David W. era XLR8R for a piece on drug wars and a new book out on the subject. For another article on sneaker fanatics I was asked to illustrate a pair of gravis sneakers.

Cameron Martin website, 2010
Cameron’s work is part painting, part photography and part printing making. His palette is often a small range of grey resulting in low contrast images whose impact on the eye vary immensely depending on the ambient light. The WordPress enabled site is super simple with the exception of the “splash” page whose background cycles through a range of grey.

Website mockups for a publishing venture in Brooklyn NY. Although my preference where these, what was eventually coded is ok as well. My first use of Trebuchet MS.

The Impossible Image, 2001
Design for a Kate Sennert piece in The Blow Up on the issue of digitally manipulated photography. Images were taken from Phaidons book The Impossible Image. I specifically wanted to avoid the use of Flash, reference Photoshop within the interface and present the photos as big as possible. Looking back I wish the images would have been even larger. Stay Honest, 2002
Cary at Honest wanted to feature some of my work in their featured section of their site and I of course oblidged but also asked if I could design a nice xerox machine inspired interface. In this archived version I swapped out all the work and replaced with images of friends. And some of the functionality is gone like preloaders. Be careful not to run out of toner.

Archinect — Global Peace Container feature, 2000
A custom feature for Archinect about Jamaican schools made from shipping containers. Of course, this was published before we figured out that these kind of features are better suited for templates. It is also what was nice about the web at the turn of the century—everything was not widgetized, socialized and embeddable.

All day I dream about skateboarding—a mini site for a legendary skateboarder’s first signature shoe with Adidas.

Tiger, of George
Identity for a house ware company that sources fabric from West African countries. I suggested adding the comma to 1. balance the words which were awkward in length relative to each other, 2. imply verbal communication since the fabrics themselves function similarly and 3. reference a tiger claw. Website and labels arriving shortly.

Buka of New York
This Brooklyn restaurant serves unfussy Nigerian food. The mark alludes to the practice of displaying bowls on tables to communicate an eateries’ services.

Eastern Developments Music
Eastern Developments Music was a music imprint started by Guillermo S. Herren and myself at the beginning of the decade. We both were influenced by Atlanta / Miami / NYC — essentially East Coast, hence the name — machine funk. I hesitate to use the word electro, only because of the recent unfortunate hipster connotation. The letter forms themselves were based and traced from an old type house catalog because the specimen looked like a graf piece from the late 80s on the MARTA east line.

Brown & Jackson
Logo and stationery suite for a small interior and space design office. Shown below are an alternative word mark and optional graphic marks. Both Brown & Jackson are designers so I kept the lock-up and usage rules loose.

L.A.M.B
Word mark for Gwen Stefani’s fashion line. A secondary mark was also designed along with first season’s hang tags and garment labels, tee shirts.

“Teto Solar” — Tohno Crocco, 2009
Brasilian SMD release of Tohno Crocco’s super group of old players. The format is guaranteed at 5 reales and helps combat bootlegs by making the releases affordable. The cover illustration and subsequent treatment of circles within the package mimic stages of a solar eclipse. I think the literal translation of teto solar is a sun roof. Special thanks to Simon Katz for producing this release.

“Koushik” — MixOBeats & MixORemixes, 2009
Sneak screen preview of Koushik’s CD of beats and remixes. Without parroting 20 years of championing remix, tape editing, cut & paste culture I will blatantly admit to sampling all the imagery from The Grammar of Ornament. Thanks to Ben Velez for making this happen.

Hamacide, 2009
Yusuke Hama’s new project under his Hamacide moniker that in addition to sounding dangerous also translates to “by the shore”. Since initially the music release is digital only I treated the illustrations by photographing them off the monitor and layering, to emphasize their lifespan as being entirely on screen. Elements of the cover also carry thru to the website and can be expanded upon for future videos, remixes packages, etc.

Savath & Savalas “Apropa’t”, 2004
Press sheets and internet image search results from an art direction & design project for WARP Records recording artist Savath & Savalas. Recorded in Spain, I wanted to portray Maya Hayak’s photography within an architectural motif that illustrated the country’s rich history of accommodating external influences.

Eliot Lipp”Steele Street Scraps”, 2006
Another music packaging project with a small budget and quick turn around time. The typography is a play off of the title, with the 8bit chunks and blood splats for style points. Inconsistencies in color in the above images are purely due to my lack of skill in shooting flat work. A Hefty Records release. I also recently found an interesting outtake.
